Almería with Children: What Works and What to Skip
Updated October 20, 2026 · 4 min read
Almería is not a city built around children, and the family options here are fewer than in resort towns. That does not make it a bad choice, but it helps to know what exists before you promise anything.
The one thing to check first
None of the listings below gives a minimum age in its overview. Operators set their own limits, and they are on each booking page. Do not rely on a general rule: look at the page, and write to the operator if it is unclear.
Indoors
- Aquarium Costa de Almería: €23 per person, 26 reviews at 3.9. The rating is the lowest of anything in this article, so read recent reviews before you book. The listing says little about what you see.
- Civil War shelters: €18, 1.5 hours, 160 reviews at 4.5, a guided walk through 1 km of underground galleries. Whether it suits young children is something we cannot tell you. It is a history tour, with a lot of standing and listening, so it may work better for older children.
On the water
The one-hour bay cruise on a catamaran costs €9 per person, with 12 reviews at 4.6. It is short and cheap, which is the point for children: if it goes badly, little is lost. For longer trips, see the Cabo de Gata boat trips, and check the booking page for age rules and life jackets.
Out of town
- A western town: Fort Bravo and Mini Hollywood are the obvious family pick. Read how they compare before choosing.
- Beaches: the best beaches in Cabo de Gata are beautiful, but some are reached on foot, so check access before you go with a pushchair.
When it is a bad idea
- Long tours with small children. Several of the best offers last 2 to 5 hours, and the Mojácar day trip is about 9 hours.
- The desert at midday. A tour provider puts Tabernas at over 3,000 hours of sun a year, so go early or late.
- Anything you have not read the booking page for.
Sun and health
For sun protection or travel sickness, ask a pharmacist or your paediatrician before the trip. We do not recommend remedies here.
Where to go next
The city tours and tickets page lists ten offers from €6, and things to do in Almería shows the whole range.
